Mark Rylance, a Hollywood actor who starred in Dunkirk, recently supported the Stop the War Coalition while calling for mass protests during President Trump’s U.K. Visit.
The organization is hosting a demonstration “Together Against Trump” on July 13 that Rylance wanted citizens to attend. The Hollywood Reporter noted Sunday that he urged Britain to “rise up in protest during President Donald Trump’s upcoming four-day visit” while saying that “if there isn’t a protest, it’s going to be a disaster.” He called protests “very helpful” and urgeding the U.K. to say “No thnk you, Mr. Trump. There’s another way forward, a way together, a way with hope.”
Rylance, among other Hollywood actors, appeared in an event at London’s Shaw Theatre titled
“Just Say No: Artists Against Trump & War” that benefited Stop the War Coalition.
Stop the War Coalition was “founded in September 2001 in the weeks following 9/11, when George W. Bush announce the ‘war on terror,’” (not like terrorists hijacked planes and hit the World Trade Center killing thousands of Americans – they did). The group is “committed to supporting Palestinian rights, opposing racism and Islamophobia,” among other things.
In a protest announcement by Stop the War,representatives from Stop Trump Coalition and Stand Up to Trump called Trump a “volatile and dangerous character” who is a “racist and sexist.” Online, the group put articles about Trump next to Gaza’s medicine shortage and children dying from hunger in Yemen.
What Rylance might not have mentioned is that the Queen has met with all but three presidents since Woodrow Wilson (she didn’t meet Coolidge, Johnson or Ford.) Included in the list of world leaders that have visited England are: Vladimir Putin, Nicolae Ceausescu and Xi Jinping, all dictators or communists. Queen Elizabeth’s meetings with foreign leaders is not new. It’s expected that a leader of a country meet with other leaders in this globally-connected world.
Bashing Trump seems to be a hobby for Hollywood. They find any way to express their disdain for the president, including a typical meeting with the Queen.
