The whole purpose of the Roseanne revival was to bring some balance to the more left-wing fare being offered to television audiences.
Ironically, as ABC rushes to find a replacement for their now scrapped Roseanne show, talks are apparently in session to create a spinoff focused on the character of Darlene. Essentially, it’s going to be Roseanne but without all those pesky Trumpish talking points written into the plot.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, ABC is scrambling to make up the projected ad revenue that was lost from cancelling Roseanne after Roseanne Barr was fired from ABC after a racist tweet about former Obama administration staffer Valerie Jarrett. However, instead of making a new show that centered around the same conservative issues as Roseanne did, the network is currently considering focusing on Darlene, her son who dresses like a girl, and probably all the other elements of that character.
The actress, Sara Gilbert, repeatedly denied that the revival of Roseanne would be meant for conservatives, saying to the Hollywood Reporter, “We keep saying that the first episode is going to piss off liberals and the other eight are going to piss off conservatives.”
So, if conservative viewers expect something in the same line as Roseanne from ABC, they probably won’t get it.
