Don’t ever threaten the liberals’ imagined right to abort. It might just be unsafe.
After the Trump administration proposed that health clinics such as Planned Parenthood could not accept federal funds and provide abortions, feminists and media figures raised an uproar. Planned Parenthood, the most recognized name in baby-killing, (with 321,384 abortions in the year 2016 alone), was faced with a choice: to stop providing abortions or stop accepting federal funding (in 2016, they received $543.7 million in federal funding).
Comedian Sarah Silverman tweeted, “Time to expose all the abortions paid for by the hypocrite politicians that vote for this. Make no mistake, this is about limiting women’s choices while courting a specific voting block. This could not be less about morals or life.”
Many defenders of Planned Parenthood decided to avoid the topic of abortion altogether, instead linking the defunding to a rise in cancer and disease. The Hill’s healthcare columnist, Eugene Gu, wrote, “Trump’s plan to defund Planned Parenthood will defund HPV and HIV screening and prevention—the very things he can’t even tell apart. This is a shameful attack on women but a stunning victory for breast cancer, cervical cancer, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and genital warts.”
Right, because the only health clinics in the United States are Planned Parenthood clinics.
According to NPR, Planned Parenthood’s Vice President Dawn Dawn Laguens said, "This is an attempt to take away women's basic rights, period. Under this rule, people will not get the health care they need. They won't get birth control, cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, or even general women's health exams.”
Actress Patricia Arquette echoed the same thought, tweeting, “Lots of people think HPV is HIV which is why they don’t understand that shutting down planned parenthood would result in a huge rise in cervical and throat cancers.” Ok, but abortion isn’t healthcare. Providing abortions does not stop the rise of cervical and throat cancers. And nobody is shutting down Planned Parenthood. It has to make a choice between providing abortions or receiving federal funding.
Actor John Fugelsang wrote, “WH to strip Federal funding to Planned Parenthood because only in America do we try to make the abortion rate go down by making it harder for women to get birth control.” Abortion has been legal since 1973, and even though liberal politicians promised they would make it “safe, legal and rare,” Planned Parenthood alone has performed over 7.6 million abortions since it was made legal. Providing abortions and birth control, ironically, did not make the abortion rate go down.
