In a not-exactly shocking conclusion, NBC has cleared NBC of having a culture that tolerated and excused sexual harassment at the network. Though NBC had no problem exonerating itself, the journalists at the network in March scoffed when House Republicans found no evidence of collusion for GOP President Donald Trump.
According to a report released on Wednesday, NBC discovered no proof that “any NBC News or Today show leadership, News HR or others in positions of authority in the News Division received any complaints about [Matt] Lauer’s workplace behavior prior to November 27, 2017.”
As noted by Deadline.com, NBC “does not believe that there is a current widespread or systemic pattern of behavior that violates Company policy or a current culture of harassment in the News Division.” Even some other journalists are blasting NBC for exonerating itself.
What a shock! Even more amazing revelations are below:
We were also unable to establish that any of those interviewed, including NBC News and Today
Show leadership, News HR and others in positions of authority in the News Division, knew that Lauer had engaged in sexual activity with other employees.
Yet, when Republicans on a House panel said there was no evidence of Russian collusion by their Republican president, NBC was skeptical. Today co-host Hoda Kotb on March 13 opened the show by decrying the “controversial conclusion.” She noted that Democrats [are] outraged.”
Reporter Kristen Welker highlighted rage against self-investigating:
Now Democrats blasted the move as purely political. California Congressman Adam Schiff calling it a grave disservice to the country, accusing Republicans of being more interested in protecting the President than protecting the country.
One might rework that quote to wonder if NBC is “more interested protecting the network than female employees?”
