In a bit of network self promotion and ideological cheerleading, ABC’s Nightline on Wednesday night hyped the series finale of Scandal. Co-host Juju Chang hailed star Kerry Washington’s Democratic advocacy: “But while she keeps her personal life personal, she does speak out publicly about issues like gun control and women's rights.”
Chang showed a clip of the actress at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The actress touted how her real life liberalism mirrors the show’s: “The truth is I was working for the real Obama White House before I was working for the pretend Grant administration.”
Chang lauded her character Olivia Pope: “She’s a television trailblazer, fiercely independent and unapologetic.” In October, Washington appeared on another ABC show, The View, to complain about Republican control: “We've been talking for almost a year now about this tragic situation.”

I have to vote, I have to show up. I have to be educated. That's what democracy means.
