Which is more harmful: Being given a friendly (but arguably distasteful and ill-timed) greeting or being knocked to the ground?
The answer is obvious to anybody with common sense but, in the mainstream media, the former is currently being reported on with great outrage while the latter is ignored. Both events happened on Thursday during and just after Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke testified before a congressional committee. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is receiving heat from some lawmakers for greeting a Japanese American congresswoman with the phrase "Konnichiwa" after being asked a question Thursday about continuing funds for the Japanese American Confinement Sites program.
The program preserves confinement sites where Japanese Americans were detained during World War II.
"Will we see it funded again in 2018?," asked Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, D-Hawaii, whose grandfathers during World War II were among the estimated 120,000 Japanese Americans sent to U.S. confinement camps.
"Oh, Konnichiwa," Zinke replied with a phrase often used in the afternoon.
"I think it's still 'ohayo gozaimasu,' but that's okay," Hanabusa corrected him with a phrase typically used in the morning.
Representative Hanabusa didn't seem amused, but didn't lashout. Meanwhile, ABC News noted this of one, count them, ONE audience member:
Zinke's comment quickly raised eyebrows as one audience member's jaw dropped immediately after his remark.
Since then, other networks and news outlets covered this "horror" with equal outrage yet not one has so far reported that a Zinke female staffer was physically assaulted by a deranged Democrat operative right after that hearing. U.S. Capitol Police have arrested a male Democratic operative for assaulting a female Interior Department communications official following a House budget hearing Thursday.
The assault happened after Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke finished testifying on the department’s 2019 budget proposal before the House Committee on Natural Resources. The suspect identified himself as a reporter with American Bridge and pushed a female Interior Department communications official to the floor, chasing after Zinke, The Daily Caller News Foundation learned.
Interior communications director Laura Rigas was “greatly alarmed and extremely irate that a female senior member of my DOI Communications team was physically assaulted today by a Democrat staffer from the PAC American Bridge,” she told Politico.
The piece continued:
American Bridge is a political action committee dedicated to “holding Republicans accountable for their words and actions,” according to their website. American Bridge is known for having operatives follow Republican candidates on the campaign trail.
