“The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement.” To most people, that statement from Attorney General Jeff Sessions is entirely unremarkable, all the more in the context of being delivered in a recent speech to a Sheriffs’ association. But if you’re a super-woke lefty journalist with a less-than-optimal knowledge of civics and history, it sets your SJW senses a-tingling! The Washington Post, Vice News, Essense, NBC and of course, CNN, all heard the “dog whistle,” or at least didn’t have enough ethical responsibility to dismiss it as bone-headed drivel.
“Anglo-American?” how much more racist can you get?
A lot. Infinitely more racist, in fact. However, the ignorance of the resistance being what it is, DOJ had to explain Sessions’ remark:
As most law students learn in the first week of their first year, Anglo-American law — also known as the common law — is a shared legal heritage between England and America. The sheriff is unique to that shared legal heritage … Before reporters sloppily imply nefarious meaning behind the term, we would suggest that they read any number of the Supreme Court opinions that use the term. Or they could simply put ‘Anglo-American law’ into Google.
That should have put the matter to rest, but SJWs are intrepid in their search for stuff to be outraged about. At Spin, writer Maggie Serota noted Sessions had used “Anglo-American” in a recent speech praising the late Antonin Scalia, for the love of Gaia!
Further proof: “part of [Sessions’s] speech was praising sheriffs for assisting the Trump administrations enforce its illegal immigration crackdown.” Super Sleuth Serota has a hunch about this “Anglo American” stuff, and she doesn’t like it.
“Given that Sessions was once deemed too racist for a federal judgeship under Reagan, it’s not crazy to assume that the attorney general was applauding sheriffs for bolstering whiteness or white ‘heritage’ in law enforcement.
Yes, Sessions got slimed in a confirmation hearing back in the 80s. It was the age of Borking and Clarence Thomas, when Ted Kennedy would pretend to be incensed about conservatives’ behavior and the media would pretend to take him seriously.
Anyway, Serota is just a hack with a lefty axe to grind, one of hundreds out there. What’s actually disturbing is when a U.S. senator, one of only two from Hawaii, goes full idiot:
