NewsBusters Executive Editor Tim Graham appeared on Monday night's Risk & Reward show on Fox Business to discuss Monday morning's CNN interview with Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Trump. Graham hammered Russia-obsessed CNN for a little historic hypocrisy, noting CNN was founded by Ted Turner, who in the 1980s made an embarrassingly sappy documentary called Portrait of the Soviet Union where his narrator proclaimed the Kremlin was the "home of the people."
Graham mentioned MRC's research showing the network evening news shows aired more than 350 minutes of Russia scandal coverage in a month, while barely mentioning real policy areas like the economy and jobs. But he said "A lot of people enjoy this sort of mocking of Chris Cuomo, where CNN -- like the C stands for credible." Graham also joked that CNN could just be described with the title of another cable network: "Russia Today."
"What you really have here is a set of networks who just can't accept that Hillary Clinton lost, that she was just that terrible a candidate, and that their reporting just wasn't that influential, so they had to assign to it some grand conspiracy theory," he said.
Conway accused CNN of carrying more about Russia than about America. "This [interview] was more than 30 minutes, you know, most Americans would think of 30 minutes of being interview by Chris Cuomo with a long slow, root canal -- and all he wanted to talk about was Russia, so she was obviously right about that. The whole time she was on, that was all they wanted to talk about."
