In a classic case of bias by omission, the networks ignored the story of a woman who attacked the car of a GOP politician for his AHCA vote.
On May 8, Tennessee resident Wendi Wright tailed Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN) and his aide after they left a meeting at the University of Tennessee. When it seemed like she would force the pair off the road, the politician pulled into a driveway, where Wright banged on his car windows and blocked his car from leaving.
Supposedly, Wright was incensed by Kustoff’s vote in favor of the American Health Care Act. In a BuzzFeed News article about the incident, writer Brianna Sacks seemed to justify Wright’s actions by noting that the single mother had repeatedly and unsuccessfully attempted to meet with Kustoff to discuss his vote.
While NBCNews.com ran a report of the event, no network shows condemned or even mentioned it – even after Wright was charged with felony reckless endangerment.
In the past, the nets have censored use of force by progressive activists, such as pro-abortion counter-protestors who blocked pro-life marchers and physically struggled with police during February’s #ProtestPP marches.
Additionally, liberal protestors tend to receive more positive coverage than conservative ralliers. In an April 14 CBS report, the former group were praised as the “Voice of America” when they gave GOP representatives an “earful” at town hall meetings. While liberal constituents got nearly two minutes of coverage in the segment, conservatives got only 15 seconds.
