The Obama White House got the star treatment when they were in office, so they were all-but-guaranteed the same Hollywood treatment out of office.
Universal Pictures and Anonymous Content supposedly have a “high-concept workplace comedy” in the works, a movie called From the Corner of the Oval. Set for a 2018 release, the movie will be based on a book proposal from former White House stenographer, Beck Dorey-Stein.
The Hollywood Reporter had more on the possible film:
The book doesn’t promise a revealing look inside the inner workings of the Obama administration, but focuses more on the White House as a workplace and on the relationships between the staffers…From the Corner of the Oval follows a young woman living in Washington D.C. who is at an all-time career low when, through a twist of fate, she goes from serving cocktails to lobbyists to being hired as a stenographer in the Obama White House,” THR says of the book’s synopsis. “The ultimate fish out of water, she stumbles into an elite world and finds herself navigating a series of misadventures in life and love.
The book won’t reveal a look inside the Obama administration, but instead focus more on the relationships between staffers. It’s a sort of rags to riches story; a young female Washingtonian in a career funk who goes from serving drinks to fetching a job in the Obama administration. Of course, this unfolded as this young gun attempted to navigate love, life, and the White House.
This isn’t the first movie about Obama. John Legend’s Southside with You, which focuses on the romance of a young Michelle and Barack Obama, and Barry, which focused on Obama’s time at Columbia University. Both films were released in 2016.
