In Sunday night's episode of CBS’s Madam Secretary, titled “Break in Diplomacy,” Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) punches Philippine President Datu Andrada in the face during a weapons package negotiation in response to his ass-grabbing move, doing to him what liberals wish Madam Secretary Hillary Clinton could do to President Trump.
What kind of crazy thought process would come up with a story of political deal-making that includes the Secretary of State breaking the nose of the president of the Philippines when he gets aggressively physical with her? A Hollywood leftist mentality focused on keeping the fantasy going of a strong feminist political leader – Hillary Clinton. Even for Hillary, this is a stretch.
It is probably no accident that the Philippine president is a successful, very wealthy businessman who is an egotist and ran an untraditional campaign. Elizabeth refers to him as "rough around the edges" before she meets with him. Madam Secretary needs the Philippines onboard for The Singapore Interchange – an Asia-Pacific territory treaty. It is as though Hillary Clinton is negotiating with Donald Trump.
In real life, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been accused of sexual harassment.
Staffer: Mr. President, Secretary of State Elizabeth Mccord.
Andrada: Secretary Mccord, mabuhay.
Elizabeth:Thank you so much for agreeing to meet with me on such short notice. I'm very grateful.
Andrada: I can offer you coffee or fruit.
Elizabeth: Oh. Uh, no. I'm fine, thank you. Thanks.
Andrada: May I call you Elizabeth?
Elizabeth: Sure. May I call you Datu?
Andrada: I don't believe that's appropriate.
Elizabeth: Of course. I... I wanted to congratulate you on your election, Mr. President.
Andrada: Really? I know Dalton supported my opponent. He underestimated me, but, of course, so did my opponent. He had no idea my people would be looking into his crooked financial dealings. Please... Sit... Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: Well, I am sure that you are going to be a strong and principled leader.
Andrada: I will make the Philippines stronger and more independent.
Elizabeth: Oh. President Andrada, don't you find in the final analysis that it is our friendships and our partnerships that determine our true strength?
Andrada: If they're the right ones.
Elizabeth: Yes. Which is why I am here, as your partner, to ask you to join me in Singapore. You must know how vital these talks are to finalizing the jurisdiction of the remaining contested South China Sea Islands. And... Um, some of those islands that China is claiming, specifically the Scarborough Shoal, are widely considered to be yours, after all. Partners.
Andrada: You call us this now, but that was not your intention when you bought us from Spain and kept us as a colony after promising us freedom.
Elizabeth: I agree, that was a... Dark beginning, but it was also a very different time in both of our histories.
Andrada: Perhaps it is time for us to go our separate ways.
Elizabeth: President Andrada... What do you want?
Andrada: Oh, what are you offering?
Elizabeth: Military reinforcements. Five v-22 Ospreys.
Andrada: We would need at least ten Ospreys.
Elizabeth: I can authorize that.
Andrada: And a new aircraft carrier.
Elizabeth: What about rq-4 Global Hawks?
Andrada: What about tactical nuclear missiles?
Elizabeth: I think you know that's just not on the table. How do you feel about drones?
Andrada: I like what I am hearing. Do you have any idea how sexy it is to hear a woman talking about drones?
Elizabeth: Well, I think that if we can... Generally agree on the kind and amount of military reinforcements that you're interested in, then I think we can probably presume these...
So, yeah, Elizabeth breaks the guy’s nose – she is, after all, former CIA and trained to take care of herself. Andrada tells the press that he was injured in a sparring match at his gym.
So, how is Elizabeth to get this guy to go along with the treaty? After using sources in the intelligence community, it is uncovered that President Andrada paid off five women to keep his secrets – four having to do with sexual harassment and one having to do with tens of millions of dollars of payments from China. She uses this to demand a joint press conference with President Dalton and President Andrada to announce the treaty agreement. Faces saved all around.
In the end, Elizabeth decides to not tell the world what a sleazebag the man is. She instead tells him in person that if he steps out of bounds again, she will spill the beans. Also, she puts him on notice that at a later date of her choosing, she will tell the world the real story.
I smell a book deal.
