Hollywood entertainers really brought out the snark in anticipation of the president’s Supreme Court announcement.
When President Donald Trump tweeted that he would deliver a “very important decision” at 8 pm, progressive movie director Michael Moore responded: “Oh no! Really?! What could it be? You’re stepping down?”
Undermining the seriousness of the presidential appointment, comedian Chelsea Handler joked, “Trump will announce his Supreme Court pick tonight. Kanye West is headed to D.C.”
Jill Twiss, screenwriter for John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight, jabbed Trump’s intention to nominate the “best judge in the country.” “OMG he’s going to appoint Ruth Bader Ginsburg again!” she sarcastically tweeted.
After the president officially nominated Neil Gorsuch, Hollywood celebrities predictably attacked the justice’s ideology.
“This is Trump’s #SCOTUSnominee,” commented Andy Lassner, producer of the Ellen show. “He knows what’s best for your vaginas, ladies.” Attached was an unflattering picture of the new Justice with a frown and furrowed brow.
George Takei took a similar tack. The former Star Trek actor noted that “Religious based discrimination and abortion foes just got a boost,” while Funny or Die host Billy Eichner honed in on the issues of gender and sexuality. “Gorsuch is extremely anti-LGBTQ and this is a #StolenSeat that belonged to Merrick Garland,” he whined.
Human Rights Campaign National Press Secretary Sarah McBride also joined in. “I hope Merrick Garland is getting all of the hugs as Trump formally steals his #SCOTUS seat tonight.”
