After spending her 2015 summer months working with Lena Dunham on the set of sex-filled, pro-abortion Girls, Malia Obama is moving on to a bigger and better internship. This year, she’ll be working with progressive producer Harvey Weinstein.
The 18-year-old will begin the internship—her third in the entertainment industry—in February, following her family’s vacation to Palm Springs. According to the Huffington Post, she will probably work in marketing or development.

Hollywood may seem a far cry from Washington, but the two are inextricably connected. Weinstein has proven anything but apolitical in his approach to entertainment. During the 2015 Oscars season, the producer pushed recognition for The Imitation Game, a film about British World War II code breaker Alan Turing. But the movie did not attempt to hide its liberal agenda when it came to Turing’s homosexuality and the hormone therapy he was forced to undergo. Instead, an Oscars-timed ad for the film declared: “Honor this movie. Honor this man. And honor the movement to bring justice to the other 49,000 [punished homosexuals].”
These days, film is political whether Hollywood intends it or not. Sundance founder Robert Redford told press at the festival’s January 19 opener, “We stay away from politics,” but the event’s line-up deals with a number of contentious issues such as climate change and racial tension.
One can imagine that Obama and Weinstein won’t shy away from the political either.
