The media’s post-election treatment of President-elect Donald Trump has gone from downright ridiculous to downright terrifying.
On December 8, the liberal news site Fusion posted a cartoon titled, “The Best Case Scenarios Under Trump.” One of the four scenarios suggested Trump’s assassination.
In that panel of the comic, a shadowy figure says, “Our double agent is ready to carry out the order,” as he holds a picture of future first lady Melania Trump. Another responds, “The Slovenian slayer never fails.” In other words, Fusion’s “best case scenario” for Trump’s presidency is that his Slovenian-born wife murders him.
Fusion, a news site that following the election declared itself "the voice of the resistance", was launched in 2013 by Spanish-language broadcasting giant Univision, the network whose chairman, Haim Saban, donated between $10 and $25 million to The Clinton Foundation alone. Saban's wife, Cheryl, serves on the Foundation's Board.
During the 2016 presidential election, Saban told Bloomberg he would give as much as necessary to ensure a Clinton victory in 2016, but even his $25 million wasn’t enough. (Note to Saban: “necessary” just ain’t what it used to be.) Leaked emails from Clinton Campaign Chairman John Podesta also exposed that Saban repeatedly facilitated collusion between Univision and the Clinton campaign.
Univision is the same network that brought us Jorge Ramos, who openly declared his position against Trump and proclaimed that journalists should ditch neutrality in their coverage of the 2016 presidential election.
The Fusion comic presented other “best case scenarios,” including overturning the election as a result of Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s recount, Trump’s impeachment leaving “standard reliable crazy” Vice President-elect Mike Pence as president, or a world-ending nuclear war.
When it comes to hysterical reactions to Trump’s election, apparently anything goes, even threats on the President-elect’s life.
