College campuses nationwide responded to Donald Trump’s election by providing “safe spaces” for distressed students to discuss their feelings on the election, challenge-free. Students were coddled with coloring books, Play-Doh, bubble-blowing toys, snacks, stuffed animals, and real animals to calm them down. Some colleges cancelled classes and exams.
Podcast comedian Adam Carolla and radio talk-show host Dennis Prager will set out to challenge these campuses with their documentary, “No Safe Spaces.” According to The Hollywood Reporter the documentary will feature the two touring college campuses to talk and debate with students and faculty about their precious “safe spaces.”
Carolla stated, “Having your beliefs challenged is as American as apple pie.”
Apparently not, as liberal college students have demonstrated their intolerance for different opinions by shouting down conservative speakers or demanding that they be uninvited from university events, demands which have been appeased by administrations. “College campuses are supposed to be where diversity of opinion is celebrated, not silenced,” argued Carolla, whose documentary will explore these occurrences as well.
The epidemic of liberal intolerance reaches more than just academics, something Prager understands from first-hand experience. Of the 100+ PragerU videos posted on YouTube, which provide non-progressive views on issues, 18 of them have been restricted even though none contain any indecency. Ironically, the latest of his videos censored by the video-sharing site discussed “tactics that progressives are using to limit speech and political engagement by conservatives.”
Noting the decay of academia, Prager remarked, “Universities have become a laughingstock. When prestigious institutions of rigorous academic instruction give out coloring books and Play-Doh to 20-year-old students in designated safe-space areas on campus, we are failing them.”
