Just in case there isn’t enough anti-Donald Trump celebrity rants, celebrity videos, sex toys, or TV shows, writer Dave Eggers has blessed us all with 30 anti-Trump songs.
On October 10, Eggers launched his 30 Days, 30 Songs initiative to release a new anti-Trump song every day until Election Day. Four years ago, Eggers created 90 Days, 90 Reasons, a campaign to motivate voters to re-elect President Obama.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Eggers came up with the idea after attending a Trump rally in June, which inspired the “resurrection of the political protest song.” In order to create a playlist “written and recorded by musicians for a Trump-free American,” Eggers recruited artists such as Death Cab for Cutie, R.E.M., Aimee Mann and Jim James.
Eggers asserted, “We know that songs can change minds, and particularly now, we need to motivate voters to stand against bigotry, sexism, hatred and ignorance.”
Speaking of hatred, songs on the playlist include “With Love from Russia,” “Demagogue,” “Little Failure” and “DonaldTrumpMakesMeWannaSmokeCrack.” The songs are available on Spotify and Apple Music, and all proceeds go toward the Center for Popular Democracy.
The words of one track, “Old Man Trump,” read, “I suppose that Old Man Trump knows just how much racial hate / He stirred up in that bloodpot of human hearts / When he drawed that color line / Here at his Beach Haven family project.”
The website for the initiative states, “We will not be duped by Mr. Trump’s rhetorical contortions, by his pandering and lies and false promises.” The site continues, “In contrast to Trump’s demagoguery and complete lack of qualifications and temperament, Hillary Clinton is a calm, intelligent, empathetic professional with more relevant experience…than any candidate in the modern era.” Of course, no mention of her “pandering and lies.”
“Hillary Clinton will keep the country on an even keel, and will build on the achievements of President Obama.” They’re right about one thing: Clinton will follow in the footsteps of President Obama.
