30+ Celebrities Wish Planned Parenthood ‘Happy 100 Years’

Planned Parenthood ensures millions of unborn babies never celebrate even one birthday  – but that doesn’t mean it can’t celebrate its own birthday with some help from Hollywood.

Celebrities have always adored Planned Parenthood, and so when the abortion giant celebrated its 100th anniversary Sunday, they were more than happy to tweet in praise and admiration to their thousands of followers with the hashtag “100YearsStrong.” The big names included everyone from Lena Dunham celebrating Planned Parenthood as “every woman’s main bitch” to Joss Whedon applauding the U.S. for getting “shit right sometimes” by having Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood favorite Lena Dunham (Girls) began the celebration by tweeting, “Planned Parenthood has been every woman's main bitch for #100YearsStrong Happy bday to my siblings in #ReproJustice @PPact.”

 

 

Another big Planned Parenthood fan, actress Connie Britton tweeted, “Happy 100 years” and added, “Thanks for serving us so courageously for a century!”

 

 

Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) praised the “100 years of care, education, & activism,” tweeting, “I'm thrilled to be celebrating Planned Parenthood turning #100YearsStrong!”

 

 

Singer Miley Cyrus, a longtime fan, tweeted the exact same thing, as did actresses Aya Cash (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Padma Lakshmi (Top Chef, Girl Most Likely). (Planned Parenthood talking points, anyone?)

 

 

 

 

The Dixie Chicks similarly typed about the “100 years of care, education, & activism.”

 

 

To show her support, actress Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives) bashed Planned Parenthood critics. “Can’t believe we still have to fight for this sh*t,” she tweeted. (“Sh*t” meaning “sexual & #reprofreedom.” Or, you know, abortion.)

 

 

Similarly, actress Aisha Tyler (Archer) tweeted about Planned Parenthood “fighting 4 #reprofreedom.” “[W]e'll keep fighting 2 ensure women are the architects of their destiny!” she added.

 

 

Jenny Slate (star of the “abortion romantic comedy” Obvious Child) also thanked Planned Parenthood for “fighting for sexual& #reprofreedom.”

 

 

“Reproductive freedom” came up again when Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, Woman in Gold) tweeted, “Planned Parenthood has been fighting for sexual & #reprofreedom #100YearsStrong.” Showrunner Jennie Urman (Jane the Virgin) said the same and added, “Can’t believe we still have to fight for it! Thanks PP!” (Again, Planned Parenthood talking points, anyone?)

 

 

 

Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Night) expressed gratitude to the abortion giant for “protecting every woman's right to make choices about our bodies and our lives.” Never mind the lives of the unborn.

 

 

KaDee Strickland also focused solely on women. “So thrilled to see #100YearsStrong @PPFA of service for the health & welfare of women!” she tweeted. Similarly, Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas) tweeted a “Happy birthday” and thank you for “taking care of woman and their reproductive health.”

 

 

 

TV writer Elisabeth R. Finch (Grey’s Anatomy, True Blood, Vampire Diaries) ironically tweeted, “Thank you Planned Parenthood for saving so many lives. Including mine.”

 

 

Niki Koss (Famous in Love) cheered, “Here’s to 100 more” while Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl) similarly encouraged, “Pink this weekend to honor @PPact #100YearsStrong may women benefit from your existence for many more centuries!”

 

 

 

Actress Kathy Najimy (WALL-E, Hocus Pocus) celebrated with “100 kick ass bday cakes that say: thx PP 4 protectng the rites 2 our own damn bodies.”

 

 

Better late than never, Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary) tweeted Tuesday, “Planned Parenthood has been providing women with essential medical care for 100 years!”

 

 

Actress Jessie Kahnweiler (The Skinny) thanked Planned Parenthood, “from the bottom of my ovaries” while comedian Julie Klausner raised her glass to the abortion giant.

 

 

 

Natasha Lyonne (American Pie) tweeted out a “thank you” to Planned Parenthood while Dana Delany (China Beach) tweeted a “thank you” to its founder Margaret Sanger.

 

 

 

Among other tweets, actress Anne Wheaton (Sharknado 2) tweeted, “Men, women, and teens rely heavily on @PPact for basic health care needs. That's why they're #100YearsStrong.”

 

 

And actress Kristen Nelson (Psych) thanked Planned Parenthood “For caring, for listening, for aiding” and for “knowing that health comes first” while singer Holly Miranda tweeted, “thank for all you do for women and have done for 100 years!”

 

 

 

 

Lindsey Morgan (General Hospital) recommended that her followers “Celebrate Planned Parenthood turning #100YearsStrong by changing your profile picture.”

 

 

To tie in the transgender community, actress Trace Lysette (Transparent) tweeted, “Did you know you can go to @PPact for hormones and transgender healthcare? Well you can! Happy Birthday.”

 

 

Adding politics into the mix, Lisa Edelstein (House, What Women Want) connected Planned Parenthood’s anniversary to Hillary Clinton. “It is #100yearsstrong anniversary of @PPact and I'm SO GLAD @HillaryClinton MENTIONED upholding #roevwade during this #debate2016,” she tweeted.

 

 

Likewise, singer Gingger Shankar retweeted President Barack Obama’s support of Planned Parenthood with “#100YearsStrong.”

 

 

Male celebrities weren’t as vocal on Twitter, but some still made an appearance.

Comedian Andy Richter (Conan) thanked Planned Parenthood for, “invaluable service to women and families for an entire century.”

 

 

Actor Matt McGorry (Orange Is the New Black) not only thanked Planned Parenthood but also its “badass, enormous-hearted” president Cecile Richards “for all that you've done.”

 

 

Director Joss Whedon (The Avengers) pointed to Planned Parenthood as one of America’s achievements.  “Hey did you guys know the U.S gets shit right sometimes? FOR A CENTURY?!?” he asked. “Here's to Planned Parenthood and 100 years of care #100YearsStrong.”
