Tuesday was the second night in a row where Republican convention speakers launched strong criticism of Hillary Clinton, which the Hillary-boosting media cannot stand. Anything that's negative is cast as hyper-negative. The quote of the day came from MSNBC host Chris Matthews, who wildly re-imagined Chris Christie's speech on her terrible foreign policy mistakes as some kind of gladiator movie where the crowd would root for Mrs. Clinton to be eaten by lions or something.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: First of all, an overall sort of aesthetic, historic assessment. when Christie was up there with that very rough justice, I might put it, of Hillary Clinton, and he kept saying, “In each case I'm going to ask you for your verdict,” it did remind me of those old swords and sandals movies with the Roman emperor going up and down in the coliseum. And I get the feeling, he wanted — if they had said, “Kill her now!”– it was almost that bloodthirsty. [Makes a thumbs down.] It was like this stuff. And the audience, as requested, responded always with the verdict of guilty. And they said it in a blood curdling way every time.
Among the runners-up in the Tuesday competition for was more outrage at Christie, brought directly by ABC reporter Terry Moran:
"So, you did level this blistering indictment against Hillary Clinton. It brought the crowd to its feet. Do you think it’s good— They were chanting, “Lock her up. Lock her up,” having a really good time with that. Do you think that is a good thing for American politics when political disagreements result in, basically, a crowd becoming a mob, saying lock her up?" -- ABC reporter Terry Moran to Gov. Chris Christie.
"This is different than any political convention I have ever attended and this is my 24th...They were more about Hillary Clinton than they were about Donald Trump. Mitch McConnell, for example, mentioned Hillary Clinton 26 times in his speech. He mentioned — Donald Trump six times. Over and over. I mean, she was accused of everything from who'd-a-thought it to the diphtheria epidemic or something. I mean, if there was anything she was not accused of, I missed it." -- Former CBS anchorman Bob Schieffer.
“When you go all the way back to Whitewater, also, the special prosecutors — several of them went through all of that and what they ended up impeaching Bill Clinton for was misleading them and lying about his personal life, not about anything related to the Whitewater investigations or any of their real estate deals, so this will never be resolved to the satisfaction of the conspiracy theorists, but this is becoming a big issue because of the trust problem that Hillary Clinton has in her polling.” – NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC.
"Trump’s sons (Douchbag McFuckface and Thurston Shitbag the 3rd, you’ll recall ) look like the date rapist in every after school special ever." – HBO Real Time star Bill Maher on Twitter.
