Ever the cinemaphile, Chris Matthews last night reached for a movie reference to describe what he considered Donald Trump's relentless and savage attack on Bill Clinton, dredging up the former president's infidelities and general sleaziness. It's like, the Hardball host groused, a scene in Good Will Hunting where the title character bashes another character's head into the pavement in a fight scene:

And you go, "My God!" But that's what they do to Bill Clinton. They just keep doing it, Matt Damon.
Moments earlier, Matthews offered that "there's this weird kind of defense that people feel about Bill Clinton" because "he was impeached" and, essentially, suffered enough for his sins.
Towards the close of the segment Matthews insisted – without offering any evidence to back it up, of course – that Republican women voters will react negatively to any criticism of Hillary Clinton that invokes her husband's infidelities.
"Dare I say there are women out there, Republican women, who feel that every attack on Bill is really an attack on the marriage, is really an attack on Hillary," he insisted. I don't know about you, but the Republican women in my life would strongly disagree with Matthews.
Then again, remember, this is the same guy who launched a sexist attack on Carly Fiorina, insisting she was using her gender as a shield for attacking Hillary.
