In a November roundtable conducted by Stephen Galloway of The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Lawrence revealed some refreshing news. She felt uncomfortable and guilty in her first sex scene with a married co-star.
Encircling the table with Lawrence were eight leading ladies including Cate Blanchett, Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda, Carey Mulligan and Kate Winslet. After some discussion about the wage gap between male and female actors, Executive Editor Stephen Galloway asked, “What’s been your toughest moment as an actress?”
“I had my first real sex scene a couple of weeks ago, and it was really bizarre. It was really weird," Lawrence explained to the group. “[My co-star] is married, and it was going to be my first time even kissing a married man, and guilt is like the worst feeling in your stomach … I knew it was my job, but I couldn't tell my stomach. It was just very vulnerable. You don't know what's too much. You want to do it real. You want everything to be real. That was the most vulnerable I've ever been."
It’s likely that Chris Pratt, her co-star in 2016 film Passengers, was uncomfortable as well. Pratt, known for his recent performance in Jurassic World, is an unabashed conservative Christian married to wife Anna Faris and father to son Jack.
Lawrence, on the other hand, is a definite liberal, known for her chummy friendship with Amy Schumer and her recent comments about Kim Davis, the “lady who makes me embarrassed to be from Kentucky.” Even still, it’s nice to see she has common decency.
