The liberal Daily Beast website's Cheat Sheet digest today declared last Friday a "dark day" [see screen captures below] by virtue of a new record for gun sales in the U.S.. concluded in a 24-hour period.
More precisely, the record in question is that of instant FBI background checks through the national NICS database, which are made prior to a purchase from a federal firearms license (FFL) holder such as a gun store. Notice how the Beast reported the news item and gratuitously linked it last Friday's spree shooting by what appears to be a very gravely mentally-disturbed man :
The FBI processed 185,345 gun background checks on Black Friday, setting a new record. The 2015 number was about 5 percent higher than the number performed on Black Friday in 2014. The checks are required for permits and purchases from federally licensed dealers. On the same day, three people were murdered by a gunman at a Planned Parenthood office in Colorado.
