With a nod to the terror attacks in Paris that cancelled last week’s live show and the attack on a Mali hotel, NBC’s Undateable’s newest live episode, “An Origin Story Walks Into A Bar,” began with a little shot of compassion mixed with a chaser of naivety.
When Shel (Ron Funches) walks into the bar, he is asked where he’s been. He explains that it’s been a busy week hugging all his friends – his French friends, his Muslim friends (they needed it, too), you get the picture. He mentions he’d be up for traveling the world and giving hugs. Afraid of ISIS? Nah. He’s from Detroit!
Burski: Hey, Shel, haven't seen you for few day us. Where you been?
Shel: This week has been all about giving hugs. Hugged my French friends because they needed it. Hugged my Muslim friends because they needed it, too.

Leslie: So much has been going on. I wish you could just travel around the world giving hugs.
Shel: I will! You think I'm afraid of ISIS? Bitch, I'm from Detroit.
There is a time for mourning and holding loved ones close following a terror attack, but only in liberal Hollywood is ISIS no worse than Detroit and can be defeated with hugs and unicorns and rainbows. Enough fighting terror with peace signs, guys, time for some real resolve.
