Well, that didn’t take long. Minutes before President Trump’s first State of the Union address on Tuesday, the major broadcast networks pulled out the long knives to attack the “embattled” and “deeply unpopular” President leading a GOP that’s “paying the political price in recent special elections” for a presidency whom people believe is working “against them.”

To demonstrate just how far down the drain their standards for news and analysis were, CNN spent a couple minutes before the State of the Union Tuesday wondering if First Lady Melania Trump’s outfit was designed to protest the President, her own husband.

If there’s someone you don’t want doing your fact checking, it’s probably Brian Williams. Yet, the disgraced ex-Nightly News anchor began MSNBC’s State of the Union coverage on Tuesday by triumphantly asserting, “We will fact check” Donald Trump’s State of the Union claims.

This year, liberals are not content to wait until after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech to resist. Instead, the liberal-funded Duke University Reporters’ Lab will be testing a fact-checking app that will allow fact-checkers from Politifact, The Washington Post and FactCheck.org to post fact-checks in real time.

On Monday, all three network morning shows read from the same script as they tried to preempt President Trump’s State of the Union address with dour coverage of “controversies looming” over the speech and the President’s “record-low approval rating.” The broadcasts also touted how “deeply divided” the nation was on the eve of Trump’s remarks.  

The media has been hard at work discrediting and downplaying President Trump’s first State of the Union address before it even happens. The annual presidential address will happen tomorrow evening on January 30, but on CNN’s New Day Monday, the liberal network was already whining that whatever Trump said would have no impact, because his presidency was irredeemable, by this time anyway.

With President Trump set to address the nation during the State of the Union on Tuesday, the White House billed the theme of speech as “building a safe, strong, and proud America.” But during some of the network morning shows on Sunday, journalists appeared eager to get past the address and forget about it, maybe even as soon as “Wednesday afternoon,” as one guessed.
