Heart of Darkness: Randy Quaid Goes on Bizarre Rant Against Rupert Murdoch

The horror...the horror...

As some of you might be aware, actor Randy Quaid seems to have taken a long mental trip up the river into his personal Heart of Darkness. The viral video he has just posted from there is at the same time fascinating, repulsive, scary, profane, and definitely quite disturbing so a warning  about the strong language along with images hard to remove from memory before watching it. An edited cleaned up version of the previous video is below followed by a description of the original video from USA Today:

Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, have shared a new video.

And let's just say it's not family-friendly.

The actor, who is Dennis Quaid's older brother, has had a troubling past several years. He and his wife became convinced that they were being hunted by "Hollywood star-whackers" who tried to kill his friends David Carradine and Heath Ledger, and tried to move to Canada. Past run-ins with the law have left them with felony warrants out for their arrests.

In the new video, which appeared on Tuesday, Quaid boasts that he's wearing the same palm tree shirt he sported in 1996's Independence Day, one of the blockbusters, along with Christmas Vacation, that he says he helped Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. and Warner Bros. earn "well over" $1 billion. But he feels he's been wronged — by ex-Warner Bros. exec Bruce Berman, News Corp's New York Post and TMZ.

"Evi and I have been put through a living hell," he says. "So how do we retaliate?"

By engaging in a sexual act.

Quaid says, "Rupert, you wanna (expletive) me? I'm gonna (expletive) you," and he hands Evi a Murdoch mask.

The Daily Beast didn't shy away from posting the original in which the two appear to have sex (as a dog barks in the background).

Before we judge Randy Quaid too harshly, keep in mind that at his peak he was one of the best actors of our time. Here is Quaid in his Golden Globe winning portrayal of Lyndon B. Johnson in LBJ: The Early Years:

Just so you know this great biographical performance was no fluke, here is Quaid as Colonel Tom Parker stealing scenes from Elvis:

So although Quaid seems to have gone completely over the edge, please keep in mind that other actors, such as Dennis Hopper, delivered their greatest performances after they seemed to have fallen off the deep end. Perhaps there are still great performances (King Lear?) left in Randy Quaid so he shouldn't be completely written off as hopeless based on recent actions and the disturbing video.

Exit question: Should the barking dog in the original viral video be nominated for best supporting actor?
