In his Apple TV series The Problem, Jon Stewart surely caused jaws to drop with a strong critique of how the media were guilty of "relentless hyperbole" in describing every mini-scoop as a "bombshell" during the Russian collusion probe of independent counsel Robert Mueller.
Nicholas Fondacaro joins the show to discuss how Stewart mocked the media's arrogance, as "they stand ready betwixt America and peril, a bulwark to creeping fascism." The comedian played a snippet of the Washington Post ad narrated by Tom Hanks, and then made masturbating hand gestures.
While Stewart first attacked Fox as a shameless media arm of the conservatives, he looked back on all the "worse than Watergate" Mueller hype and employed several video-clip packages to ridiculed the idea that this deserved to be the top story that crowded out all the other news. The long buildup to a "jailgasm" ended with a whimper, not a bang.
