On the latest NewsBusters Podcast, we begin with the question: when the news heavily suggests that everything is fine in America, what's missing from the news? Republicans, first and foremost, or anyone who would strongly question Biden's hold on reality. The press was pretty rough with Biden as Afghanistan quickly collapsed to the vicious Taliban, but people like Brian Stelter complained the press was "over the top," hypercritical of the Democrat president.
Now that the Democrats are in charge -- for now -- the news sounds much more satisfied, like laying out on a sunny summer day. In the Trump years, the overarching tone was panic, dread, and righteous rage at Trump. Stelter constantly suggested Trump was like a dictator, and mentally unstable, to boot. So it was amazing on Sunday when he lectured Newsmax to show more respect to the president. Suddenly, it was gauche to question the president's mental state. It was a conspiracy theory, unlike CNN's years of pushing Russian collusion.
