You may have never thought you could get this political insight from a sports commentator, but former NBA Detroit Pistons star-turned-host of "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" on Fox Sports Network John Salley has defied expectations.
Salley recently appeared on September 23 edition of "The Adam Carolla" podcast and asked Carolla a very pointed and insightful question.
"I have a question - do you hate Obama?" Salley asked. "Why are so many people who now hate him after just 266 days they loved him? All of white America. Not all of ‘em but the majority."
He continued with his shrewd examination of the current political culture and noted the use of the Nazi and Hitler imagery, synonymous with the followers of Lyndon LaRouche, at political events.
"The fact that you can say the word Hitler and put it to our president is some scary thought," Salley continued.
The charge that President Barack Obama has been acting like a fascist has been of a huge concern to the liberal movement presently. The term had been thrown around in conservative circles however, it was only but a few months ago that people were still referring to George W. Bush as "Bushitler." That type of demagoguing didn't seem to bother those same critics at the time.
But Salley didn't stop with those initial accusations. Later in the podcast, he touched on the issue again. He praised former President Jimmy Carter for his recent controversial remarks on race.
"I think Jimmy Carter was great about what he said," Salley pontificated. "I think he saw it from his point of view knowing where it came from, the roots of it, calling certain people racist. But I also feel it's a lack of respect for position, I think the position of being president has been weakened since George W. Bush, well since Clinton."
Carolla's podcasts generally touch on subjects such as race, ethnicity and sexual behavior and they are often very crude. However this was almost entirely unprompted from the former NBA star. You can listen to the entire podcast here.
