ABC or DNC? Network Cheers: ‘Such a Big Win,’ ‘Big Victory’ for Biden!

ABC News on Tuesday blurred the lines between the network and the DNC talking points, cheering the “big win,” “big victory” for Joe Biden after the passage of a new spending bill. The journalists at Good Morning America could barely contain their excitement.

Guest co-host Gio Benitez hyped, “We're going to turn now to a big victory at the White House. President Biden is set to sign the massive health, climate and tax bill into law later today. Now this is the largest climate investment in U.S. history.”

An on-screen graphic painted the same picture: “President Biden’s Big Victory: Set to Sign Inflation Reduction Act Into Law.” In case you weren’t sure how to feel about spending an additional $740 billion on climate and health care, Cecilia Vega explained, “It’s such a big win for President Biden, he's actually interrupting his vacation and flying back to White House today just for this bill signing.”

Equating Democrats “saying” something with the truth, he continued:

Listen to this: Some $370 billion. This includes tax credits for solar panels, electric vehicles. And look, Democrats say that by the end of the decade, these incentives will cut greenhouse gas by 40 percent from those 2005 levels. The big question right now? This is paid for by new taxes on large companies and stepped-up IRS enforcement for the rich. Look, the White House is calling this a once-in-a-generation investment.

Where was Republican opposition in all this? It was boiled down to a sentence from Vega: “We have heard this from Republicans and many experts who dispute by how much it's actually going to help inflation.”

So ABC reporters have “heard” this from Republicans, but Benitez didn’t bother featuring any of these people. Instead, the journalist touted the need to see this all as a success: “The White House is really planning to capitalize on this one. They're going to hit the road, the President and cabinet members going across the country trying to convince the American people that this is helping them.”

GIO BENITEZ: We're going to turn now to a big victory at the White House. President Biden is set to sign the massive health, climate and tax bill into law later today. Now this is the largest climate investment in U.S. history and our chief White House correspondent Cecilia Vega has more on how else this bill will impact Americans. Hey, Cecilia. Good morning.

ABC GRAPHIC: President Biden’s Big Victory: Set to Sign Inflation Reduction Act Into Law

CECILIA VEGA: It’s such a big win for President Biden, he's actually interrupting his vacation and flying back to White House today just for this bill signing. So let me show you what’s inside of it. Because as you said, it is indeed a big one. We're talking about some $740 billion overall, on this health care front. It’s going to help some 13 million Americans pay for insurance by expanding subsidies. It caps prescription drug costs at 2,000 there are a year for Medicare recipients. And then, starting next year, those receiving Medicare will receive $35 a month for insulin. That’s that really expensive drug. It’s also, Gio, as you just said, climate investment in U.S. history.

Promising that it's going to save Americans by saving them money, reducing inflation and lowering the deficit. But we have heard this from Republicans and many experts who dispute by how much it's actually going to help inflation. Robin the White House is really planning to capitalize on this one. They're going to hit the road, the President and cabinet members going across the country trying to convince the American people that this is helping them. Of course, all tied to those midterms that are coming up.

ROBIN ROBERTS: And they’ll be here before we know it. All right, Cecilia, as you know. Thank you.
