Huh? Nasty Tina Brown Blames ‘Racist’ ‘Brexit England’ for Royal Woes

October 24th, 2019 1:16 PM

Leave it to liberal Tina Brown to turn a discussion about the woes of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle into one about the “racist” politics of “Brexit England.” The former Newsweek editor appeared on CBS This Morning, Thursday, to discuss the British tabloids and the royal family. Co-host Anthony Mason offered Brown the opportunity to bash her home country by wondering, “What role do you think race plays in this in the UK media?”

The journalist, who has worked at the New Yorker and Vanity Fair, snapped, “I think there is racism, and a rising misogyny, by the way, in the U.K.” Offering this out-of-left-field assessment, she continued, “I think that Brexit England is an ugly place, actually. There's a lot of anger. A lot of misogyny. A lot of sort of people in a kind of [a]... hatred of foreigners.”

Again, this whole topic was supposed to be about the royal family. Not Brexit. Earlier, co-host Tony Dokoupil wondered how Harry and Markle “play” in the British press. Again, Brown slammed the “conservative” and “white” tabloids.

Well, the U.K. media is very conservative and very middle aged. You have to recognize that the tabloids are really, you know, staffed and written by middle-aged kind of white guys on the whole. And they are ruthless about any blood in the water that they see.

Brown is one to talk about nasty journalists. She has assailed the “crazy” Michele Bachmann and called Republican women victories a “blow to feminism.” For more examples of her bias, go here

As for Brexit and the current Prime Minister in Britain, CBS previously mocked him as “Boris the clown.”

TONY DOKOUPIL: Tina, that kind of vulnerability might play well with an American audience. I certainly appreciated seeing it. You know the —  the U.K. Media. How does it play there?

TINA BROWN: Well, the U.K. media is very conservative and very middle aged. You have to recognize that the tabloids are really, you know, staffed and written by middle-aged kind of white guys on the whole. And they are ruthless about any blood in the water that they see.

ANTHONY MASON: What role do you think race plays in this in the UK media?

TINA BROWN: Look, I think there is racism, and a rising misogyny, by the way, in the U.K.

TONY DOKOUPIL: Probably classism, too.

BROWN: I think that Brexit England is an ugly place, actually. There's a lot of anger. A lot of misogyny. A lot of sort of people in a kind of —  you know, hatred of foreigners. You know, there's a lot of bad stuff happening now.
