ABC Tees Up Oprah to Praise Hillary: A ‘Monumental Time for Women’

June 16th, 2016 11:21 AM

The journalists at Good Morning America on Thursday prompted Oprah Winfrey to praise Hillary Clinton and talk about supporting her in 2016. The talk show host lauded Clinton: “I'm with her. I have to say, I'm with her. And I would also say that, regardless of your politics, you cannot be a woman in the world and not see that this is a monumental time for women breaking the ceiling.”

Talking with GMA’s Lara Spencer, Winfrey marveled, “Talk about breaking the ceiling.” Spencer set up the campaigning with this softball: “I want to ask about politics if you want to talk about it. Eight years ago you threw your weight behind Barack Obama. In this election, will you get behind one of these candidates?”

ABC reporters have always loved Winfrey’s endorsements of Democrats, such as Barack Obama. On the September 6, 2007 GMA, David Wright gushed, “Oprah's plug can turn a book into a bestseller, a movie into a blockbuster. And the question now is, can she turn a candidate into a President?”

On December 10, 2007 Wright rhapsodized, “She's urging her fans to vote the dream, not just to settle for the inevitable.”

LARA SPENCER Changing subjects briefly, I want to ask about politics, if you want to talk about it. Eight years ago you threw your weight behind Barack Obama. In this election, will you get behind one of these candidates?

OPRAH WINFREY: I'm with her. I have to say, I'm with her. And I would also say that regardless of your politics, you cannot be a woman in the world and not see that this is a monumental time for women breaking the ceiling. Talk about breaking the ceiling.
