Dark Knight star Gary Oldman excoriated liberal Hollywood in an interview with Playboy. The actor slammed the Obama administration, complaining, "I feel we need some real leadership, and it’s nowhere in sight. Look at what’s happening right now. John Kerry going off to China to talk about North Korea? What’s that going to do? The ludicrousness of it." The actor also went on a profanity-laced tirade to describe Nancy Pelosi.
Asked about the possibility of Hillary Clinton assuming the presidency in 2016, Oldman referenced a conservative character he played in a movie from 2000: "As far as Hillary, I guess I feel like my character in The Contender, Shelly Runyon. He doesn’t want Joan Allen to become president; he just believes she isn’t the right person for the job. It’s nothing to do with the fact that she’s a woman."
Oldman, a Republican, is fuming about editing cuts made to The Contender, which he alleges were made due to the studio’s Democratic leanings. In the new issue of Premiere magazine, Oldman and his manager, Douglas Urbanski, accuse DreamWorks honchos Steven Spielberg, David Geffen, and Jeffrey Katzenberg — all Democrats — of turning the political drama upside down to make it mesh with their pro-Al Gore agendas.
“If your names are Spielberg, Katzenberg, and Geffen,” Urbanski declares, “you can’t have a film with a Republican character … who is at all sympathetic … being released on Oct. 13 [less than a month before the presidential election].”
In the Playboy interview, Oldman used offensive and vulgar language to complain about political correctness. From Variety:
The most explosive part of the interview includes attacks on Maher, Stewart and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, following his declaration that political correctness is “crap.”
“Well, if I called Nancy Pelosi a c*** — and I’ll go one better, a f****** useless c*** — I can’t really say that. But Bill Maher and Jon Stewart can, and nobody’s going to stop them from working because of it. Bill Maher could call someone a fag and get away with it. He said to Seth MacFarlane this year, ‘I thought you were going to do the Oscars again. Instead they got a lesbian.’ He can say something like that. Is that more or less offensive than Alec Baldwin saying to someone in the street, ‘You fag’? I don’t get it.”
