TV's 'Trapper John' Whacks the Media: They're 'Constipated by Their Own Ideology'

It's no secret that most Hollywood celebrities are enthusiastic supporters of President Obama and his liberal policies, but on Fox's Cashin' In on Saturday, 1970s M*A*S*H star Wayne ("Trapper John") Rogers, now a successful businessman and investor, tore into the news media for shielding the President.

Host Eric Bolling set up the moment by listing miserable economic indicators such as the high poverty rate, low employment participation rate and record number of people on food stamps, then asked Rogers to explain: "How is this President held in such high esteem by the Left?" [Rogers' answer and the video after the jump.]

"He's held in high esteem because the media doesn't expose him, that's why," Rogers exclaimed. After listing some of the President's most egregious lies (such as, "if you like your plan, you can keep it"), Rogers said the media were failing to do their job:

"I mean, you read Andrew Rosenthal [the op-ed page editor] in the New York Times, I mean, he's an apologist. These are people who are constipated by their own ideology, that they cannot see that this man is telling a bold-faced lie right to their face....Nobody nails this guy. And when you read, as I said, if you read the op-ed page of the New York Times, you'd think you were living in a different country. These people don't do anything."

Then, referring an earlier discussion in the show of Al Sharpton's Easter Message that President Obama has "been able to rise politically again....To every crucifixion there is a resurrection," Rogers reminded viewers of Sharpton's role in the Tawana Brawley hoax: "Al Sharpton is a total fraud. A total fraud. The worst."
