When former Vice President Joe Biden visited Detroit on Tuesday, he got more than he expected when a construction worker asked whether he would let gun owners keep their firearms or use the government to remove them instead. The employee who posed that question was a guest on Wednesday morning's edition of Fox & Friends, when he said he was surprised that the Democratic frontrunner responded with a great deal of hostility and vulgarity to his question.
Journalists seem very interested when they think Donald Trump is intimidating or acting in a manner unbecoming a president. But so far, the non-Fox press is avoiding Jerry Wayne. Co-host Steve Doocy started the segment by showing a clip of Biden stating: “I'm not working for you. Give me a break, man. Don't be a horse's a**.”
Brian Kilmeade then asked that employee, guest Jerry Wayne, to “set the scene.”
Wayne replied:
Well, I heard when I first came to work that he would be coming in, so I spent a little bit of time gathering my thoughts on questions that I might be able to ask.
He started making his rounds, shaking people's hands, and he made it to my way, and I stopped him. I started asking him a question.
Biden “could have easily said: 'I'm not taking questions,'“ Wayne added, “and I would have very respectfully walked away, but he wanted to listen to my question, and I don't think that he was ready for it.” The worker asked how the Democrat was “going to be helping get us work in the future. … We seem to be doing fine at the moment, but there's always room for improvement.”
Wayne also asked how Biden would “get the vote of the working man when a lot of us ... bear arms, and we like to do that. And if he wants to give us work and take our guns, I don't see how he's going to get the same vote.”
Fellow co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked: “So his message has changed, right? Is that your concern because he looked at you, and he said: ‘That's not true. I never said that.'” Earhardt then introduced a clip of Biden being interviewed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who asked if a Biden administration “means they're going to come for my guns?”
“Bingo!” the candidate responded. “You're right if you have an assault weapon. The fact of the matter is they should be illegal, period.”
Doocy referred to another video, when Biden told former candidate Beto O’Rourke: “You're going to take care of the gun problem with me. ... You're going to be the one who leads this effort.” Wayne responded that it “was a little bit disturbing to see that a politician wants to take away my right to defend myself.”
“So which Joe Biden do you believe?” Ainsley asked. Wayne replied: “The one that wants to take away my guns.” Doocy concluded the interview by asking the guest if he was surprised that he asked a civil question, and Biden “just went off the deep end.” “I thought I was pretty articulate and respectful,” Wayne replied.
