While many liberal Democrats have responded harshly to President Trump’s proposal to move illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities, there is at least one notable exception in the controversy: Cherilyn Sarkisian, the singer and actress better known as “Cher.”
In a Twitter post on Sunday, the liberal celebrity focused her attention on the situation in Los Angeles, where she claimed the city does not adequately provide for the 50,000 homeless people already there and is therefore not prepared to handle a large influx of illegal immigrants, a statement that the Republican occupant of the White House readily agreed with.
Cher’s message stated:
I Understand Helping struggling Immigrants, but MY CITY (Los Angeles) ISNT TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN. WHAT ABOUT THE 50,000+Citizens WHO LIVE ON THE STREETS, PPL WHO LIVE BELOW POVERTY LINE & HUNGRY?
If My State Can’t Take Care of Its Own(Many Are VETS)How Can it Take Care Of More
As you might imagine, it didn’t take long for the President to respond: “I finally agree with Cher!”
Donald Trump Jr. then reposted her message on Instagram and stated: “Welcome to the Republican Party, Cher!!!”
While this development might not seem very significant, NewsBusters has previously reported that the contralto singer and the President have not always been on the same page, especially during the 2016 election.
On June 8 of that year, the day before the California primaries, Cher stated during a Hollywood fundraiser for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton:
When I watch Trump, I just want to blow my brains out. Or maybe not my brains, but I'm just like “What are you talking about?”
I know that Hillary fights for equality for all people, and we are no good unless all of us are equal.
Then on July 28, the singer posted an image of Mao Zedong, mass-murdering leader of the People's Republic of China for decades, with Trump’s features superimposed on it with the message: “You want a bully, dictator!? Vote GOP and you’ll get one.”
And in case anyone hadn’t figured out that she hated Trump, Cher compared the GOP “despot” to Russian dictator Joseph Stalin and Nazi villain Adolf Hitler during another fundraiser on August 24, when she claimed the Republican was “saying the same things” as those evil men.
She also claimed that Trump’s motto really meant either “We want to make America straight and white” or “We’re going to make Germany great again.”
In mid-February, she hosted VH1’s Trailblazer Honors and sang the praises of fellow septuagenarian progressive Nancy Pelosi, whom she called a feminist "hero" and “icon.”
While presenting the award, Cher commented:
When I see Trump spew his hate and tell his gazillion lies, I get pissed off and I feel uneasy at the same time.
But thank goodness for Nancy. I see Nancy come on TV and I think, “OK, this is all good, Nancy is in the house.”
Of course, none of these liberal “icons” are interested in personally helping illegal immigrants or homeless people. Instead, they’d rather spend “other people’s money” than put anyone up in their spacious mansions.
