Jon Stewart: Midterms Could Be 'Beginning of the End' of President Trump

Even though Jon Stewart hasn’t been the host of The Daily Show on the Comedy Central cable channel for four years, the liberal comedian still takes advantage of every opportunity to slam President Trump, whom he blames for the world being “in a terrible situation.”

That was the case when Stewart spoke at Monday evening’s Stand Up for Heroes benefit honoring wounded veterans in New York City, where he said he was “excited” about the midterm election because that could be “the beginning of the end” of Trump’s presidency.

In an article posted late Monday night by Matt Wilstein, a senior reporter for the liberal Daily Beast website, Stewart is quoted as addressing military people at the event by saying: “I’m so glad you’re here; I thought you’d be at the border” between the U.S. and Mexico, where a caravan of illegal immigrants is headed.

“I’m so scared!” he continued. “There’s thousands of sharecroppers coming to America at one to two miles an hour. They’ll be here by April. Oh, my God! What are we going to do? Probably let them plant things.”

As Wilstein noted, that event isn’t the first time Stewart has used some new jokes to hammer the GOP occupant of the White House.

The reporter stated: “In a recent joint interview with his tour mate Dave Chappelle for Christiane Amanpour’s new PBS series, Stewart said that after Trump won, he initially held out some hope that he would rise to the occasion and become a more serious person as president.”

“I think that, oddly enough, he transformed the White House, and the White House wasn’t able to transform him,” the comedian added.

After explaining that he’s been on a tour performing for audiences in Norway and Sweden, Stewart nevertheless gave the New York City crowd “an update on his view of American politics in case they had been similarly out of the loop.”

The comedian also claimed: “We’re in a terrible situation in the world. I don’t know if you’re aware of that.”

He continued:

I don’t really keep up with the news as much as I used to. I don’t have to anymore, I’m not on television.

I really want to dive in, but I don’t know how up on things you guys are. … Do you remember that show Celebrity Apprentice?

“If other people kill us, as you know, we will make you go to their place forever,” Stewart joked. “It’s basically how Americans learn geography now. But if we kill each other, we do nothing.”

“Donald Trump has been president forever,” he exaggerated. “He’s never not been president.” That’s why Stewart is “excited” about this week’s midterms, which could mark the beginning of the end of Trump’s presidency.

The comedian also alluded to the recent mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, predicting that, once again, America is “not going to f**king do anything” about it.

As NewsBusters previously reported, this is far from the first time the former Daily Show host sought out a new venue to use in sharply criticizing Trump.

Last November, Stewart joined fellow liberal comedians Trevor Noah and John Oliver during the 2017 Stand Up for Heroes benefit, where the comic tried to be funny by stating: “We put our dick in the toaster, and we’re all waiting to see what happens. What the f**k, man?”

Then in late June, Stewart appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and took over the “news desk” segment from Colbert in what became a seven-minute explosive rant against President Trump.

Stewart even went so far as to joke that Trump caused the volcanic eruption currently decimating the island of Hawaii, because that’s the “home state of [Trump’s] enemy, Barack Obama.”
