As if being a regular contributor to the Morning Joe weekday program isn’t proof enough that John Heilemann is a liberal Democrat, the MSNBC analyst did his best to leave no doubt where he stands politically during an interview on Wednesday.
After slamming President Trump’s executive order to prevent children from being taken away from families after illegally crossing the Mexican border into the U.S., the national affairs analyst stated: “We have a great chance” to inflict “a political price” on “him and his party” during the mid-term elections in November.
Heilemann made the comment during an interview conducted by Nicolle Wallace in her afternoon MSNBC program Deadline: White House after criticizing Trump for trying to be “a hero” by using the word “compassion” while responding to the situation, but "he can't actually express compassion."
He then asserted:
It is our job in the press and also the job of Democrats to not let the president have it both ways on this issue and to make sure that he can’t be both. You can’t just do this thing and then stand up and say, "Oh, hey, I’m now the hero, I have compassion." Huh-uh, you can’t go around talking about people like they’re vermin, you can’t inflict this kind of policy on Americans and not pay a political price. We have a great chance to inflict one on him and his party in November.
Then Heilemann realized he had just aligned himself with the Democratic Party, oops:
Meaning the Democrat party. I’m not part of the Democratic Party, but people who object to this policy, which I think is a lot of people beyond the Democratic Party have a chance to make the president and his party pay a price. They should, and the press needs to hold him accountable and not let him just kind of slide away from this over the course of the next few days and pretend like it didn't happen.
The host then responded: “I’ve never seen you like this before. You’ve given me a lump in my throat with that, a little bit.”
It didn’t take long for Soopermexican at The Right Scoop website to react to Heilemann’s remarks.
The “NBC journalist was almost gleeful when talking about how the mainstream media and the Democrats have a great chance” to punish Trump and the GOP. “LOL! Hilarious. And we believe that it was just an accident, right?”
“No one is surprised by this admission,” he stated, “but we have to document it for those who pretend the media isn’t biased against conservatives and also Trump too.”
As NewsBusters previously reported, Heilemann aligned himself with Joe Scarborough when the host of the Morning Joe program declared on June 13: “Primary voters in the Republican Party have devolved into a Trumpist cult.”
"It's clear that conservatism, liberalism, voting records, none of those things matter. It's a cult of personality, and the president has an extraordinary hold over his base,” Heilemann then remarked.
Of course, Heilemann also took advantage of his appearance as a panelist on Bill Maher’s HBO program to further slam the president by claiming that “Trump is doing everything you could possibly do to screw up the good economy.”
While the Morning Joe contributor actually criticized a survey that tried to predict Trump’s chances for a victory in 2020 as “one of the dumbest polls I’ve seen in a long time,” his record of advancing liberal talking points speaks for itself.
