Did Rosie O’Donnell Break Federal Law by Trying to Bribe GOP Senators?

December 22nd, 2017 2:25 PM

Comedienne Rosie O’Donnell took her feuding with Congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump to a higher level this week, when she offered to give two Senators $2 million each for voting against the GOP tax cut bill, which nevertheless was passed on Wednesday.

However, neither Senator Jeff Flake from Arizona nor Susan Collins from Maine accepted her offer, especially after she was accused of using her money as a “political bribe” by several onsite websites.

O’Donnell’s Twitter post read as the following:

so how about this i promise to give 2 million dollars to senator susan collins and 2 million to senator jeff flake if they vote NO.

NO I WILL NOT KILL AMERICANS FOR THE SUOER [sic] RICH DM me susan DM me jeff no s**t 2 million cash each.

The first response to her post came from terri mc, who told Collins: “This is your legacy & if you vote yes, it's your last term.”

Soon after, O’Donnell addressed Collins directly, posting: “susan -- 2 million dollars cash call if u want to negotiate do u think your family is proud of u @sennatorcollins woman -- mother -- grandmother -- sister -- daughter u have betrayed us all dear god ask for forgiveness redeem ur soul tomorrow.”

A quick tweet from Trevor Church asked the comedienne if she would consider running for office herself. O’Donnell’s response was brief and to the point: “never.”

Next up was Boston Jane, who stated that O’Donnell “just committed a felony so she lost all chances of running for office.”

The liberal activist fired back with another blunt and vulgar post: “ya dum s**t.”

In an article for the Mediaite website, Caleb Acarma quoted a section of 18 USC §201(b), which states:

Whoever -- directly or indirectly, corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to any public official or person who has been selected to be a public official, or offers or promises any public official or any person who has been selected to be a public official to give anything of value to any other person or entity, with intent --

to influence any official act; or to influence such public official or person who has been selected to be a public official to commit or aid in committing, or collude in, or allow, any fraud, or make opportunity for the commission of any fraud, on the United States;

shall be fined under this title or not more than three times the monetary equivalent of the thing of value, whichever is greater, or imprisoned for not more than fifty years.

O’Donnell again tried to convince Collins to change her vote by asserting: “rachel meadow [sic] asks -- 'was susan collins engaged ... did u feel a heartbeat -- was she human'"?

“SHE THINKS ITS SEXIST?” the liberal activist added. “NO U SEE SUSAN STOOD AND SAID -- NO -- I WONT KILL AMERICANS -- AND NOW SHE SAYS "YES -- YES I WILL KILL AMERICANS." F**K U SUSAN COLLINS -- U MAKE ME SICK -- UR NO WOMAN.”

Next up was Todd Bailey, who replied: “Kill Americans? Step away from the heroin needle, you flipping psycho.”

The actress again responded with brevity and vulgarity: “shove a putter up ur ass todd.”

Bailey posted: “So you lose a vote, and cry murder? How is your attitude healthy for anyone?”

Brad Wright then tweeted: “Keep your $2 mil Rosie. It passed as it should have. You lost again to Trump  Have you won any against him? Nah...didn’t think so.”

“WE CANNOT SIT AT HOME WHILE THEY ROB OUR NATION,” O’Donnell next posted, “YOUR NEIGHBORS [sic] HEALTH CARE -- FOR THE F**KING MERCERS AND KOCH BROTHERS -- F**K THEM -- RISE UP.”

“Despite O’Donnell’s bribery attempt,” Acarma concluded. “The Republican tax bill passed the Senate ... along party lines, with a 51-48 vote.”

Also discussing the situation was Jim Gerachty, who posted his views in his weekday column “The Morning Jolt” for the National Review website.

The columnist made his point by quoting a comment made by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who called the GOP tax cut bill “Armageddon” and indicated that the Democrats need “to tell the truth” to the American people.

As NewsBusters previously reported, O’Donnell refused to accept that Trump would become president. On New Year’s Day, she tweeted: “DONALD TRUMP IS MENTALLY UNSTABLE.” She added that there was “LESS THAN 3 WEEKS TO STOP HIM, AMERICA.”Several months later, the comedienne stated “it had taken a year to adjust to Ttump” in the White House. And if that wasn’t enough, she later claimed she spends 90 percent of her hours posting “hatred” messages about the GOP president.

Will Rosie O’Donnell spend the next five decades in jail? Only time  -- and NewsBusters -- will tell for sure.
