If you think Napoleon Bonaparte was a military genius because he defeated both the Austrian and Russian armies at Austerlitz in 1805 then that must make you a French imperialist. Likewise if you believed that Erwin Rommel was a good general for accomplishing a lot with limited resources then you must be an admirer of the policies of the Third Reich. Oh, and you there. You think that Georgy Zhukov and Vo Nguyen Giap were great generals? Okay, that makes you a lousy Commie!
Ridiculous, right? But no more ridiculous than Politico and the Washington Post slamming President Donald Trump for mentioning that Robert E. Lee was a great general. Of course, the whole point of the story that Trump told at his rally in Lebanon, Ohio on Friday night was to illustrate the greatness their native son, General Ulysses S. Grant, in finally defeating Lee. After all it wouldn't have been a great accomplishment if Lee were only a mediocre general.
Even though Trump's story was about the military ability of Grant, what Politico and the Washington Post took away from it was the Thought Crime of even saying that Lee was a great general. The PC GroupThink of the two periodicals were so similar that they basically echoed each other in a pathetic attempt to say anything bad about Trump starting with Brent D. Griffiths of Politico whose headline announces their big takeaway of the story praising Grant, "Trump praises Robert E. Lee during Ohio rally."
President Donald Trump praised Confederate General Robert E. Lee at a rally in Ohio Friday night during a soliloquy in which he also praised a number of Ohioans, including Union General Ulysses S. Grant.
"So Robert E. Lee was a great general and Abraham Lincoln developed a phobia, he couldn't beat Robert E. Lee," Trump told supporters at a rally in Lebanon, Ohio, the latest place he's visited to boost GOP candidates before the midterm elections. "He was going crazy ... but Robert E. Lee was winning battle after battle after battle and Abraham Lincoln came home and he said 'I can't beat Robert E. Lee."
Trump added that the frustrated Lincoln was forced to turn to Grant to finally deliver a victory for the Union and to end the Civil War.
GASP! Trump repeated what almost all historians of the Civil War from Bruce Catton to Ron Chernow have written. How dare he!
A half hour later, Gabriel Pogrund went into echo chamber mode at the Washington Post and rehashed what Politico had already written:
President Trump praised the Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee while asking African American voters to “honor us” by voting Republican at an Ohio rally that featured an unexpected and provocative monologue on America’s Civil War history.
Of course the whole point of the story was to PRAISE General Ulysses S. Grant but you can see the focus of the Washington Post in their very first sentence was on Trump's "Thought Crime."
The mainstream media's pathetic and obvious attempt to twist Trump's historically correct story into a heinous Thought Crime disgusted even some liberals who dislike Trump such as television director Miles Kahn:
