(UPDATE: The Breitbart prize has been increased to $100,000.)
There is $10,000 just waiting to be picked up by Al Sharpton. That is the prize money that Andrew Breitbart has offered to anyone who can reveal a video of Tea Party protestors in Washington, D.C. on March 20 who supposedly screamed the N-word at Congressman John Lewis. This "incident" first came to light when David Kerly breathlessly reported on it for ABC's World News Tonight:
...In fact, Cleaver, Emanuel Cleaver was together with John Lewis – they were walking over to the Capitol when somebody spit on Congressman Cleaver and yelled the ‘N’ word at Congressman Lewis. Cleaver was taken to police headquarters. He did ID the man, but he is not going to press charges. He’s not speaking about it. Lewis is not going to speak about it...
Yes, Kerly reported the racial invective as an absolute fact. Only one small problem. Despite the fact that many cameras were recording this scene, not one video has yet been produced proving this despite the fact that Andrew Breitbart has now offered a $10,000 cash incentive to do so:
It’s time for the allegedly pristine character of Rep. John Lewis to put up or shut up. Therefore, I am offering $10,000 of my own money to provide hard evidence that the N- word was hurled at him not 15 times, as his colleague reported, but just once. Surely one of those two cameras wielded by members of his entourage will prove his point.
And surely if those cameras did not capture such abhorrence, then someone from the mainstream media — those who printed and broadcast his assertions without any reasonable questioning or investigation — must themselves surely have it on camera. Of course we already know they don’t. If they did, you’d have seen it by now.
Well, it now appears that Breitbart might soon have to shell out that cash. Al Sharpton, that pristine pure character of Tawana Brawley fame, has now declared that he saw a video in which the N-word was hurled during that March 20 Tea Party protest. That grand announcement was made on the O'Reilly Factor last night.
AL SHARPTON: ...congress using the N-word.
BILL O'REILLY: How do you know they did that?
SHARPTON: I've seen the tape.
O'REILLY: There is no tape.
SHARPTON: Of people that seen...
O'REILLY: There is no tape with the N-word on it. There's no way. Let's be clear. There's no tape with the N-word on it.
SHARPTON: So everyone hallucinated the N-word?
"I've seen the tape."
He's seen the tape. Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! All that remains is the technical detail of Al Sharpton presenting that tape to Andrew Breitbart for his prize. Enjoy the $10,000, Al. That prize money would more than pay for a Caribbean vacation in Culebra. Perhaps David Kerly of ABC News could hold your rubber ducky while you wade in the bright azure waters of Flamenco beach.
