President Obama last month did an Amazon Kindle interview wherein he ridiculed Kanye West and Kim Kardashian for their lifestyle and what they represent to the youth of America.
On her television program Friday, Kardashian's mother Kris Jenner struck back and marvelously exposed the hypocrisy in Obama's comments (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
Let's begin with the understanding that I have no fondness for either Kardashian or West, although I do respect the latter's musical talents.
I'm not sure that either is a benefit to the society, and that Taylor Swift would very much agree with me.
However, I do think that Obama's comments warrant examination, and that Jenner did a fabulous job.
So for some background, this is what the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday concerning Obama's remarks:
Obama spoke about the American Dream, which he opined used to include a good home, job, education and the possibility of higher education. However, he said that these days the likes of Kardashian and West had distorted the American Dream in a way that he believes negatively affects the younger generation.
"I do think what's shifted is a notion that the wealthier you are, the more conspicuous consumption you engage in. The more successful you are, the more society should stay out of your way as you pursue the bigger house or the fancier jet or the bigger yacht," Obama said.
"Were there things that all of us might have liked to have? Sure. But partly, I think, there also has been a shift in culture. We weren't exposed to things we didn't have in the same way kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous," the president said. "Kids weren't monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success."
Here's how Jenner responded Friday:
KRIS JENNER: It's really great that people aspire to get a great job - and I too wanted that when I was growing up, and I graduated from high school, and I really wanted to work hard and succeed - but I wasn't aware that you could only set the bar so high and that we could only dream so big. I was taught: Dream big, work hard and you could have whatever you wanted.
This was met with cheers and applause from her studio audience.
JENNER: And the other thing I thought was, “Wow, I bet the president has some friends with 10,000-square-foot houses and you probably wouldn't mind going over there, Mr. President, while you were asking them to have a party for you, when you were campaigning for, you know, dollars to run for president.
In fact, Obama dined with mega-millionaire Jeffrey Katzenberg last Tuesday after he taped the Tonight Show. But the size of Katzenberg’s house or his wealth aren’t a problem for Obama because Katzenberg is one of his biggest contributors.
But I digress:
JENNER: I find it so odd that he's picking on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Well, Kanye West, first of all, doesn't go on vacation. Ever.
Compared of course to Obama who’s not only on vacation right now, but seems to be always on vacation or on a golf course.
JENNER: And Kim Kardashian is the hardest-working young lady in the world. She never sleeps, she never stops, she never slows down and works so hard for what she's got. So I started thinking about her 10,000-square-foot house, and I thought, wow, her job affords her to live in a 10,000-square-foot house. And I think, if I'm not mistaken, that Mr. President's job affords him to live in a 55,000-square-foot house. So basically my house would fit in his entry.
This was again greeted with cheers and applause from the studio audience.
Of course, what Jenner neglected to mention is that her daughter earned the money to buy that house. Obama by contrast is in a five-times larger one paid for by the taxpayers.
JENNER: With all of that aside, you know, you poke at someone, and you criticize someone for living a lifestyle that I’m sure that when he was growing up, his dream was, “One day, I want to become President of the United States and have this wonderful, fabulous life.” And that was his dream. You know? And I just didn’t think that we should put a cap on, you know, Bruce Jenner’s thing is “Dream big, work hard,” and we all want to aspire and do whatever we want. And I just don’t think it’s such a bad thing to want to be our best and do our best and have nice things.
This was again greeted with cheers and applause from the studio audience.
But she wasn’t done, because later in the segment she said, "We employ and give jobs to hundreds and hundreds of people just on Keeping Up With The Kardashians alone. And I think that’s a wonderful thing."
That is a wonderful thing, but liberals and their media minions don't believe wealthy people create jobs. They just steal from the poor.
I never thought I'd say this, but brava, Kris! Brava!
