As NewsBusters reported, Jane Fonda claimed a few weeks ago that Nancy Reagan was “not unhappy” that she was playing her in the new movie “The Butler.”
On Tuesday, Fonda upped the ante claiming on NBC’s Late Night that Reagan’s “very pleased that I was playing her” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
Midway through their interview, as they talked about the film, Fallon asked if she’s spoken to Reagan about her role.
“I have not,” Fonda answered, “but I have a friend who talked to her, and she said she was very pleased that I was playing her. And I did my best, and I think she is going to be happy.”
So two weeks ago, Reagan was “not unhappy” about this.
Now she’s “very pleased.”
Two weeks from now Fonda will likely claim Reagan is enthralled.
It’s kind of like how a caught fish grows in size the more the fisherman tells the story.
Maybe some day we’ll get Reagan’s real opinion on having this uber-liberal playing her.
Stay tuned.
