There are times when I can’t believe liberal media members are in any way part of the United States of America.
On MSNBC’s Hardball Tuesday, Salon’s Joan Walsh actually said “Obama got the last laugh” when people died as a result of Superstorm Sandy because it rebuffed something Mitt Romney said about the President at last year’s Republican National Convention (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Let's take a look at Mitt Romney. I don't want to call anybody a pig, but generically, he fits the category. Here’s Mitt Romney mocking President Obama in his convention speech last year. What a hoot it got from the Babbitts who were in the audience. Let's take a look.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MITT ROMNEY: President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans. And to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
MATTHEWS: There is so much in that, Joan. There is so much awfulness in that. In other words, making money in business is the size [sic] that God loves you. Right? That anything you do to make money in business is good, and anybody who questions that and thinks you may be hurting God's environment which he gave us is wrong, and you can laugh at them.
Exactly where in what Romney said was there anything about making money being a sign that God loves you and that anybody who thinks you may be hurting the environment is wrong?
Absolutely nowhere.
But MSNBC allows – in reality, appears to encourage – its commentators and contributors to say whatever they want without regard to facts and accuracy.
Alas, that wasn’t the most absurd thing said in this 60 seconds, for Walsh was on set to out-stupid her host:
JOAN WALSH, SALON: And remember how ridiculous that sounded, Chris, after Superstorm Sandy when the oceans did rise and people died and people lost their homes and people wanted help for their families. So, you know, Obama got the last laugh.
So, Obama was laughing at the death and destruction on the East Coast last year because it refuted what Romney said and supported the President’s position on global warming? Really Joan?
How little conscience and morality must one have as a human being to think that death and destruction is ever something to be laughed at?
And Matthews thought there was “so much awfulness” in what Romney said last year.
Yet he didn’t even blink when Walsh made this reprehensible statement seated just a few feet in front of him.
Prince Machiavelli would be so proud of the two of them.
Fortunately given Matthews' ratings, few Americans witnessed this disgusting display.
