This is way too funny.
On NBC’s Tonight Show Friday, the studio audience booed Jay Leno for telling an Esther Williams joke. The host marvelously responded, “I don’t care – I’m leaving soon.”
Towards the end of his opening monologue, Leno said, “And some sad news: actress Esther Williams has passed away at the age of 91. Cause of death? Not waiting an hour after eating before going swimming. Yeah, yeah, how ironic could that be?”
This was greeted with some oohs from the studio audience and even a scattering of light-hearted boos.
Leno responded, “I don't care - I'm leaving soon. I don't care. A year ago I would have pulled the joke. Now, screw it. Thank you. Thank you. I love that joke.”
Actually, it's really a silly joke, but I nevertheless sure hope someone gives him a new show once he leaves NBC next year.
Fingers crossed.
