It was a metaphysical certitude that America's media were going to gush and fawn over Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's testimony before Congress Wednesday as they mercilessly attacked any Senator or Representative having the gall to ask her tough questions about what happend at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last year.
Playing his part was MSNBC's Chris Matthews who on Hardball moments after the hearing ended said of Senator Ron Johnson's (R-Wisc.) exchange with Clinton, "That was kind of a pissant performance" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Joan, that was kind of a pissant performance by that guy from Wisconsin. I don’t know how these guys get over the wall into American politics. I think they won in a very low turnout elections in Wisconsin. I think everybody should run now in national elections, forced to vote, go into elections where there's a lot of voters so you don't get this weird warped sense of people coming who supposedly represent the American electorate. That guy doesn't represent anybody. Your thoughts about the senator’s, the former senator, the current Secretary of State's performance today against that kind of performance on the side of the right.
Moments later, Matthews added, “I had the image of these guys going home tonight to caves. I thought they looked like guys who had come, “I'm sorry, I'm heading back to my cave where I live.” The behavior of a couple of these guys like Johnson and Paul."
As for the "Paul" Matthews claimed also goes home to a cave, that would be Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) who was elected in November 2010 receiving 56 percent of the almost 1.4 million votes cast. He is a doctor having graduated from the prestigious Duke University School of Medicine.
Yet somehow Matthews, because he disagrees with his politics, also sees Paul living in a cave.
Honestly, how does MSNBC get away with retaining the title of news outlet?
