In the wake of new sexual revelations concerning John F. Kennedy and a nineteen-year-old White House intern, you would think media members would shy away from putting the former president on a pedestal concerning his religious beliefs.
Yet there was ABC World News anchor Diane Sawyer Monday telling George Stephanopoulos of his previous day's interview with Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, "Couldn’t believe that he was going on the offensive on church and state and the separation of them against John Kennedy" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
DIANE SAWYER: Which brings us, by the way, to Good Morning America anchor and host of This Week George Stephanopoulos who interviewed Rick Santorum yesterday, and I watched every minute of it, George. Couldn’t believe that he was going on the offensive on church and state and the separation of them against John Kennedy.
After Mimi Alford's book and subsequent interviews earlier in the month, one would think Sawyer wouldn't be holding JFK up as so knowledgable about religious issues - even the ones involving the separation of church and state.
On the other hand, maybe Sawyer isn't familiar with these new revelations.
According to LexisNexis, they've never been covered by her or anyone else on ABC World News.
Color me very unsurprised.
