NewsBusters Podcast: The View Bears MRC Scars as They Prepare New Season

Your Managing Editor Curtis Houck and I come to you on Labor Day to give you a preview of The View as they prepare to head into their 30th season on Tuesday. As ABC planned to celebrate their pearl anniversary, the purported “bona fide news program” bore the scars of the network’s recent tussle with the evidence collected by the Media Research Center over the years and submitted to the FCC: Republicans out number Democrats in their pre-season teases of their political guests.

For years, the Media Research Center and NewsBusters have been documenting and reporting the massive disparity in which political opinions were allowed on the show via who they invited as guests.

128 to 2 in 2025.

87 to 5 in Season 29

Such studies played a critical role in our public comment filing to the Federal Communications Commission calling for their “bona fide news program” status to be rejected.

On this Labor Day episode we discuss how our work seems to be bearing fruit.

The View has broken from their recent pattern of inviting prominent liberals to be their first guests and, instead, they announced Republican Senator Ted Cruz (TX) would be their first political guest.

Additionally, reports indicated that they were seeking former Trump White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt at some point.

The only Democratic politician announced ahead of the season was Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.

It’s worth noting that this episode was recorded before the Beshear announcement was made.

Enjoy!
