Bozell: Musk Twitter Takeover May Change ‘Entire Dynamics of Politics’

April 14th, 2022 1:20 PM

Appearing on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. late Thursday morning, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell declared that billionaire Elon Musk possibly buying out Twitter would both restore free speech to the social media platform and change “the entire dynamics of politics” across the globe. He also blasted the left-wing co-hosts of ABC’s The View for using the New York City subway shooting to attack gun rights.

“Elon Musk offering to buy 100% of Twitter in an all-cash deal. He says Twitter should go private....Brent, this is all about free speech, right?,” fill-in host Ashley Webster asked Bozell at the top of the segment. Bozell declared: “You know, I’m gonna suggest to you that this is the biggest story since the 2020 elections. It may be even bigger than the 2020 elections.”

Going into further detail, Bozell explained the major political significance of Twitter and the impact of its censorship policies:

Consider, Donald Trump won the presidency of the United States in 2016 because he was able to use Twitter. In 2020, one reason, a major reason he lost the presidential campaign is because Twitter censored him and wouldn’t allow him. Since then, there have been hundreds of instances where conservatives have been shut out of the public square on Twitter, which is the news site for the world today. It’s not just – this is important – it’s not just in the United States. It’s worldwide where this censorship is taking place.

He then observed that a potential Musk takeover of the company could have wide-ranging results: “What is the signature of Elon Musk? He has said he’s going to return free speech. If he does, the entire dynamics of politics changes in the United States and worldwide. Think about that.” Webster replied: “I am now. You laid it out very well, Brent.”

Turning to another topic, Webster introduced a clip of the radical, left-wing co-hosts of ABC’s The View trying to exploit the New York City subway shooting as an excuse to shut down the Second Amendment: “The co-hosts of The View, who so kindly give us so much content every day, are railing against the Second Amendment following that horrific shooting inside a New York City subway....you take away the guns, there’s no gun violence.”

Bozell called them out for trying to distract from the actual motivation of the shooter:

What do we know about this shooter? He is a black nationalist, black racist, who has videos that he has taken making the most hate-filled comments about whites. This was a crime of hate. This was a race-based crime. The only problem is, it’s the opposite of what The View has been talking about all these years. So what do you do? Deflection, blame it on guns.

Webster excoriated the ABC hosts: “But you’re taking away the rights of people who, thanks to the Constitution, have the right to defend themselves. And apparently, according to The View, that’s outrageous, we shouldn’t have that ability. I can’t understand how they believe that is right.”

Bozell proclaimed: “Look, I’m telling you, the country is getting sick and tired of this.”

11:51 AM ET

ASHLEY WEBSTER: Let’s get back to this, Elon Musk offering to buy 100% of Twitter in an all-cash deal. He says Twitter should go private. Let’s bring in Brent Bozell to talk about this. Brent, this is all about free speech, right?

BRENT BOZELL: Right, it is. You know, I’m gonna suggest to you that this is the biggest story since the 2020 elections. It may be even bigger than the 2020 elections, and I’m happy to explain that if you’d like.

WEBSTER: Yes, please.

BOZELL: Consider – consider, Donald Trump won the presidency of the United States in 2016 because he was able to use Twitter.

WEBSTER: Yup.

BOZELL: In 2020, one reason, a major reason he lost the presidential campaign is because Twitter censored him and wouldn’t allow him. Since then, there have been hundreds of instances where conservatives have been shut out of the public square on Twitter, which is the news site for the world today. It’s not just – this is important – it’s not just in the United States. It’s worldwide where this censorship is taking place. What is the signature of Elon Musk? He has said he’s going to return free speech. If he does, the entire dynamics of politics changes in the United States and worldwide. Think about that.

WEBSTER: I am now. You laid it out very well, Brent. Interesting. Let’s get to this issue, if we can. The co-hosts of The View, who so kindly give us so much content every day, are railing against the Second Amendment following that horrific shooting inside a New York City subway. Listen to the tape, then I’ll get your reaction.

JOY BEHAR: This is a tragic and uniquely American problem, it seems to me. I don’t understand why we can’t solve this problem.

JULIA HAART: You look at the UK, there’s almost no gun violence. You look at New Zealand, you look at Australia. When you take away guns, you take away gun violence.

BEHAR: Yes. Well, I agree with that, but a lot of people don’t.

SUNNY HOSTIN: That’s absolutely true.

WEBSTER: Huh, you take away the guns, there’s no gun violence. Okay, Brent, your reaction?

BOZELL: It’s the – it is the epitome of deflection and hypocrisy, what the viewers just watched right now.

WEBSTER: Yes.

BOZELL: What do we know about this shooter? He is a black nationalist, black racist, who has videos that he has taken making the most hate-filled comments about whites. This was a crime of hate. This was a race-based crime. The only problem is, it’s the opposite of what The View has been talking about all these years. So what do you do? Deflection, blame it on guns.

WEBSTER: Yeah, it’s really interesting, isn’t it? There are over 300 million guns, conservatively, out there. So if you ban guns, only the bad guys get the guns anyway, they’re already there. But you’re taking away the rights of people who, thanks to the Constitution, have the right to defend themselves. And apparently, according to The View, that’s outrageous, we shouldn’t have that ability. I can’t understand how they believe that is right.

BOZELL: And so anybody – and so anybody who commits – any terrorist that commits a murder by stabbing somebody in the neck, we need to ban knives. Knives cause death.

WEBSTER: Yeah, well, they run someone down in a car, we should ban people allowed to drive cars.

BOZELL: Look, I’m telling you, the country is getting sick and tired of this. MSNBC did a story showing the man’s – his height, his weight, and the clothes he was wearing, never mentioned that he was black.

WEBSTER: Yup.

BOZELL: Why not? Why not?

WEBSTER: Why? That’s just insane, that’s not giving all the details.

BOZELL: No, and if you reverse it. You reverse it, if this was a white on black, a deliberate racist white on black, that they would report it correctly.

WEBSTER: Yeah, it’s just – I can’t even find the words. It’s a human being doing a horrible crime on other human beings, that’s all that it is, give the proper description. Anyway, Brent, I could talk to you all day. Thank you so much for being here.
