Scarborough Warns Dems: Deal With Border Chaos and Crime, or 'Thugs Like Trump Will'

April 18th, 2022 10:35 AM

Mika Brzezinski Joe Scarborough MSNBC Morning Joe 4-18-22Joe Scarborough was cranky about the Democrats and their terrible prospects and their awful messaging on Monday's Morning Joe. This is funny, since his show is part of daily Democrat messaging that isn't helping.

He was dishing out tough love to his favored party, ripping Dems for being so out of touch on inflation, crime and chaos on the Southern border. Unleash the "humanitarian way"!

"We've got to keep our borders safe. We've got to keep our streets safe. And we can do it in a humanitarian way. And if we don't do it in a humanitarian way, then thugs like Donald Trump will do it in their way. And we are Americans. We don't want that to happen."

What's annoying is Scarborough being all pompous about border control when four years ago, he suggested Trump's border control was comparable to the Holocaust. No wonder the Democrats prefer a porous border.

If the Democrats lose the House and/or Senate in November, that doesn't re-install Trump. But he's still the top MSNBC hate object, so we move on. It's not as if Scarborough was revealing secrets to the Democrats. They can read the polls, too. They must realize that their mishandling of the border and crime is setting them up for a shellacking in November.

SCARBOROUGH: You have the Republican party right now, which has every, every advantage in the world right now, including just, I mean, one of the worst political operations I have every seen as far as Democrats, as far as national messaging. Just if you take the whole group of them, I've just never seen a party as out of touch with middle America, and even the middle of their own party! But all of that said, Donald Trump is keeping them in the game because he's so loathed by swing voters.

Note Scarborough saying that he doesn't want "thugs like Donald Trump" to return to power because "we are Americans."  So in one fell swoop, Scarborough declares that the tens of millions of people who support Trump-style solutions to crime and the border aren't "Americans." Talk about the ugly politics of division!

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough warning Democrats that if in the midterm elections they don't address the issues of crime, and the chaos at the southern border, then "thugs like Donald Trump" will do so, was sponsored in part by USPS and 4Imprint.

Here's the transcript.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: You have the Republican party right now, which has every, every advantage in the world right now, including just, I mean, one of the worst political operations I have every seen as far as Democrats, as far as national messaging. Just if you take the whole group of them, I've just never seen a party as out of touch with middle America, and even the middle of their own party! But all of that said, Donald Trump is keeping them in the game because he's so loathed by swing voters.

. . .

RICHARD HAASS: The issues are so lined up for Republicans --

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: They really are.

SCARBOROUGH: Inflation. Listen, it's—whether Democrats like it or not—it's inflation, we've said this time and time again: inflation, crime, southern border. Inflation, crime, southern border.

I was talking to a Democratic sheriff, in a southern state, who was telling me just the mass chaos on the southern border. The mass chaos. And how it's impacting Florida. And this is a Democrat. He said, the national party, I wish they would just come down here and look what is happening.

And he was talking about, you know, the repeal of Rule 42. And he just said, this is just the worst, he said, I have no idea why they won't talk about the crisis at the southern border.

Of course, they don't want to talk about crime either, they don't want to, whatever. And again, fine: you don't have to if you don't want to, if that offends your sensibilities. But there's an election to be won this fall. And it does matter to Americans.

And by the way [pauses], I'm one of those Americans. We've got to keep our borders safe. We've got to keep our streets safe. And we can do it in a humanitarian way. And if we don't do it in a humanitarian way, then thugs like Donald Trump will do it in their way. And we are Americans. We don't want that to happen."
