During a live edition of NBC’s Late Night early Thursday morning, left-wing host Seth Meyers attacked MSNBC’s Chris Matthews for daring to challenge Elizabeth Warren on her extreme socialist health care plan following Tuesday night’s Democratic debate. Meyers savaged the Hardball host and accused him of trying to “mansplain” to the 2020 presidential candidate.
“Both the moderates and the moderators tried to take shots at Bernie and Warren over Medicare-for-all,” Meyers whined. He then lectured those critics with far-left talking points: “Pundits seemed obsessed with getting them to say that they would raise taxes, even though the reality is that health care costs would be much lower, which is how it works in a bunch of major industrialized nations.”
Introducing a lengthy clip of Matthews surprisingly grilling Warren, Meyers touted how the Massachusetts Senator “deftly battled” his NBC colleague. The contentious exchange featured Matthews repeatedly demanding to know how much Warren’s radical Medicare-for-all plan would hike taxes on Americans. After Warren refused to answer, a frustrated Matthews declared: “...it’s not a Republican talking point, it’s a question.”
Warren dodged: “The question is not, do you have health insurance or not have health insurance? The question is how much are you gonna have to dig in your pocket to pay?” Matthews pushed back: “I know that’s the answer that you’d like to give, but taxes go up.” Warren asserted: “No, it’s the answer.”
As the clip ended, Meyers rushed to Warren’s defense:
When Elizabeth Warren says, no, it is the answer, then that’s the answer. She was a Harvard professor. You’re trying to school her on health care. I didn’t know that the “MS” in MSNBC stood for “Mansplain.” She had to fend off Matthews like Chris Pratt fending off a velociraptor.
The liberal audience erupted in laughter and applause.
Meyers has long been an adoring fan of Warren and her socialist agenda. During the live Late Night show early Wednesday morning, he compared the performance of Warren and Bernie Sanders in Tuesday night’s debate to the skill of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen on the basketball court. After NBC’s Democratic debate in June, Meyers was awed by Warren and compared her to “the matriarch of a southern dynasty.”
Even before the campaign started, during a softball interview in August of 2018, Meyers asked Warren if she was “relieved” that the Democratic Party was “finally” moving far left.
Here is a transcript of Meyers attacking Matthews during in his August 1 live show:

SETH MEYERS: Both the moderates and the moderators tried to take shots at Bernie and Warren over Medicare-for-all. Pundits seemed obsessed with getting them to say that they would raise taxes, even though the reality is that health care costs would be much lower, which is how it works in a bunch of major industrialized nations. And that led to this combative post-debate interview last night in which Warren deftly battled with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: There’ll have to more money.
SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN [D-MA]: Well, look –
MATTHEWS: Or you’re pay won’t go up. You guys dodged that tonight –
WARREN: No, no. It’s not a dodge. It’s about where –
MATTHEWS: No, because Jake Tapper kept saying: How much of your taxes are going to go up and you said –
WARREN: How much are your costs going to go down?
MATTHEWS: No, no, no, different question. How much will your taxes go up?
WARREN: No. It’s how much of your costs because it’s how much families end up spending.
MATTHEWS: I know that argument. I know how you’ve covered it.
WARREN: It’s not just an argument.
MATTHEWS: Will you pay more in taxes? Why don't you want to answer that question?
WARREN: Because it’s –
MATTHEWS: Because Jake said tonight that’s a Republican talking point, it’s not a Republican talking point, it’s a question.
WARREN: It’s a question about where people are gonna come out economically. The question is not, do you have health insurance or not have health insurance? The question is how much are you gonna have to dig in your pocket to pay?
MATTHEWS: I know that’s the answer that you’d like to give, but taxes go up.
WARREN: No, it’s the answer. [Laughter]
MEYERS: When Elizabeth Warren says, no, it is the answer, then that’s the answer. She was a Harvard professor. You’re trying to school her on health care. I didn’t know that the “MS” in MSNBC stood for “Mansplain.” [Moans and applause] She had to fend off Matthews like Chris Pratt fending off a velociraptor. [Laughter]
