CNBC's John Harwood Defends Clintons as Victims of the Media

In light of the #MeToo sexual harassment movement that swept the nation this past year, more politicians and media types are facing scrutiny they may never have faced or at least haven’t faced in years. Take former President Bill Clinton, for example, who was pressed on his treatment of Monica Lewinsky after their affair, on NBC’s Today show Monday.

NBC’s Craig Melvin sat down with Clinton in a pre-taped interview aired June 4, and asked him how he would’ve responded to Lewinsky and the accusations against him if they had happened today. Clinton clearly wasnt happy about being confronted with such questions and snapped at the reporter.

But some in the media still thinks the Clintons shouldn’t have to face any tough questions.

CNBC reporter John Harwood, who most recently came to the defense of vile MS-13 gang members, felt the need to defend Clinton, even tying the media’s treatment of his wife into the equation.

In response to a tweet from Washington Post White House Correspondent Josh Dawsey, sharing a clip from the Today show interview, Harwood sympathized with the former POTUS as a victim of the media:

“Perhaps any of us with the experiences in political life of Bill and Hillary Clinton would feel the same suspicion/anger/bitterness toward the media. in any case it contributed to her 2016 defeat for the presidency,” the CNBC journalist wrote.

As for the 2016 election, it’s hard to know exactly what Harwood is referring to, since the media was just as virulently anti-Trump while he was running against Clinton as they have been since he became president.
